Anyone crossing the village of Santa Maria del Camí comes across the imposing Convent de la Soledat (Friars Minims), in the busy Plaça dels Hostals, a building declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. On one of its sides, in Carrer Llarg, also forming part of the protected complex, there is a small, popular, century-old family business: the Carnisseria Ca ses Germanes, which today is run by the sisters Maria Dolors and Catalina Gualda Mateu.
Its offer is based on the production of sausages such as botifarrons, black pudding, camaiot, sobrasada and longaniza, as well as fresh meat such as sausages, hamburgers, Catalan sausage and fillings of all kinds, as well as charcuterie.
It was around the seventies of the last century when the typical white tiles were laid, which still give the interior its personality today. A kneading machine and a filling machine from the same period are also preserved. Bernat Comas says that in his house he still has a meat grinder with a bone cutter of a considerable antiquity.
Nowadays, the sisters Maria Dolors and Catalina Gualda Mateu manage the butcher’s shop with the same dynamism and the same enthusiasm that has always characterised the establishment.
The close, familiar treatment and the quality of the products are the hallmark that distinguishes this deeply rooted business in Santa Maria del Camí.
